                                                            XK Model

All XK body styles up to the end of October 1961 had 144 cubic inch engines. These engines came in both High and Low Compression versions. They were equipped with 3 speed Manual Transmissions no synchro in 1stgear or an 2 speed Automatic Transmissions.

Engine number prefixes indicate the type of engine:

ZSL - Low Compression 144 cu in, Manual Transmission

ZSH - High Compression 144 cu in, Manual Transmission

ZAH - High Compression 144 cu in, Automatic Transmission

ZAL – Low Compression 144 cu in, Automatic Transmission

In November 1961, Ford released the 170 cubic inch engine to the range in addition to the High Compression 144 cu in engine. The Low compression 144 engine was discontinued. The codes for the engine/transmission sequence can be found on the XL section of this web page.

ID Plate

Unlike the later models the XK ID Plate was a simple set up including numbers rather than letters to show dates. XK Falcons were build in two plants not 4 like XL-XP.

1st digit = 4 - Australia
2nd & 3rd digit = Manufacturing Plant (BM - Broadmeadows) or  (G - Geelong)

4th & 5th digit = Month of manufacture (11 - November)
6th & 7th digit = Year of manufacture (60 - 1960)
